Womancing

Brad Pitt and George Clooney.  Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.  All of us women know these couples.  The men — so masculine, so rugged, and often so emotionally distant to us women — holding one another, slapping one another’s butts and, generally,  affectionately cavorting doing who knows what…

The press loves these guys.  And we usually do too.  What I want is the press to have equal love for women in these types of relationships with one another.  And for men and women to take as much pleasure in our trysts…Womances…as they do in these lesser forms of bonding.

Because when true Womances happen, as we ladies know, they are magical.  Invigorating, illuminating, and rejuvenating.  Inimitable through an interaction with a man.  And as treasured an experience as the most amazing thing you can imagine.

I recently shared a very spontaneous and romantic night with a group of darling thirtysomes.  What began as a mere wedding, ended as a Womance of mighty proportions.  We did shots like we were nineteen, we laughed at one another’s borderline jokes, and we jumped and gyrated so vigorously on the dance floor that all party attendees were assuredly pointing and laughing.   Icono Pop helped with this last one.  http://www.amazon.com/Love-feat-Charli-Original-Version/dp/B008U8I380/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369611192&sr=8-1&keywords=icono+pop+i+love+it

Even though our men were there, they didn’t (couldn’t) participate in this magical happening.  Not because we wouldn’t let them, but simply because they weren’t equipped to meaningfully contribute.

I encourage each of you ladies to remember this.  Remember what it’s like to share a great belly laugh with a good gal pal, to belabor a ridiculous point of contention with another friend, to gossip about absolutely nothing over a bottle of wine, or to cry and fight your way through a debate about a very difficult issue.

Even though we become overwhelmed with all the dirty details of life, don’t let these relationships fall away.  Take a moment to unwind your grind, and keep them close, in any way you can.  Because you never know when you’ll next REALLY need a rejuvenating moment.   Make sure your girls are there to wave their magic wands and transport you, even if just for an hour, into a invigorating land where laughter, warmth and kindness abound.
